Going grassroots on our own asses, we took our deep passion for music and athleticism and revived an old idea of starting our own Clothing company...and not a moment too soon if you ask us. When you think of most of the drab, cookie-cutter, mass produced clothing being poured out on Western cultures, do you feel like something seems off about it? Does it lack a unique element to it? Do you go to class, shopping, out at night and see the same outfit your wearing walking around on a different body? It's not because you are hallucinating...it's because most companies see it profitable to keep the selection small and the quantities high. That isn't how we operate.

The Man wants to paint a picture of the Perfect Youthful Specimen. The Man tries to put us into nice neat boxes that define who we ought to be and what we should look like. The truth is, there isn't just one look for an entire demographic of people, and yet that is what most of us are being spoon-fed. Granted, there are a few designers out there producing fun and unique apparel, which isn't aimed at the masses but people who like to stand out; those who appreciate counter-culture apparel.

The story so far...

I think there a number of important questions to be asked...seriously. For instance, "Who let us have our own company," or "Why didn't anyone try and stop us," and most importantly, "Didn't they realize by letting us get away with having our own company they effectively gave a monkey the keys to a fireworks factory and backpack full of matches?"

First and Lexington is not our fault...it is the result of social irresponsibility on the behalf of our previous professors who installed visions of grandeur about the "real world", spirit crushing guidance counselors and their all-telling aptitude tests, and the family members who told us to reach for our dreams. Really, First and Lexington is the result of nobody telling us to "Stop," or "Sit down and reconsider." F+L is the after effects of too many great nights out ending with deep introspective evaluations of what truly matters in life. What we found is that life is too short to not be doing something you love.

We were entrepreneurs from the start, really. Taking the identical course schedules each semester at college we were able to buy one set of books and re-invest the money saved into throwing parties and road tripping to Florida. With our roots deeply embedded in music and "extreme sports" (sorry, does anyone else hate that phrase and how loosely it is thrown around?), it made sense for us to start exploring new business ventures within those worlds. Along with another friend, we established and ran a record label, a small recording studio and even developed what some might consider the precursor to First and Lexington, the ill-fated REDEFINE clothing label.

College was great, but with graduation and the harsh, unforgiving reality of having to find "real jobs" staring us down, it was time to leave the pingpong balls and red party cups for dress slacks and neck ties (socially acceptable colorful nooses). Let me tell you how spirit crushing that can be! Action had to be taken...but how? With the economy in the toilet, record breaking unemployment numbers and an overly crowded talent pool, thanks to the increasing number of youths attending and graduating from higher education programs all over the country, the only logical thing to do was create our own jobs...but could it be done?
